I was born in Southeast Asia but raised in the United States. I am Cambodian, but was born in Thailand. My parents and I, including my older sister and brother came to the United States in 1984 because of war between the Capitalist and the Communist. I never knew what Cambodia look like and I never knew the weather and the atmosphere there. My name is Sophal Choy and I am now in the 8th grade. I am 14 years old. Now, I have six sisters and two brothers. My family and I have been living in the United States for over twelve years.

I really like school because I believe that school is another place where I can earn knowledge. I think that education is important because if I don’t have any education I wouldn’t be able to read, write, speak, or have a successful job in the future. In order for me to express my feelings, I would always use some kinds of writing techniques to tell people or to express my feelings to people. Writing poems teaches me how to use my writing skills. It teaches me many things. It gives me more knowledge.

I am a type of person who’s always interested in the world and the environment around me. I am also a type of person who’s curious about everything. When I grow up I want to be an environmentalist or at least some kind of scientist. I may also want to be a speaker because I love to talk in front of people.

I believe that everyone in this world has a talent of their own. They are smart and considerate in different ways; including gangs. They all have or need love from their parents, friends, and the people they love. I think that there are many ways to prevent kids or teens to be in gangs. Such as coming up with a program, like the Boys and Girls Club. I had only one wish for the whole world: Have peace and learn how to love one another.
