Do Not Forget
By Chath pierSath

Do not forget when your will shall be done,
when you are high up, remember those who put you there,
where and when you are grateful will make you a man or woman
of respect, where your degree will have a sea of meanings,
if only you take time to listen to those who peddle a cyclo,
or a child that cries out for water and rice,
force your eyes to see and ears to hear,
the Khmer Rouge is over and gone, open again what they tried to
shut out, hear and see, to free yourself from all those bondage,
and to provide love and opportunities to those who may not be where
you are, and all shall come, to a worth of humanity
that shall free you from greed, and what you know shall
envelop your family, your nation and even your earth
with more voices free from oppression and injustices, one by
one, you shall be the hero and the heroine of love and justice,
and your name shall be carved onto the bas-relief of the Bayon,
among those faces of glory you see extending their compassion
to you and Khmer futures to come.
